Brianna O'Connor. Introduction to World Religions. Fall 2015.

Although women make up about half of the world's population, they have encountered various forms of discrimination over time. In religion, women are hardly ever viewed as completely equal to man. Over time, the roles of women in religion have transformed and a more adopted progressive mindset has been adapted. Religions such as Christianity, Judaism and Islam represent varying levels of equality between the sexes in the realm of religion. Feminist movements have also become heavily involved in fighting for the rights of women not just in religion but in other aspects of society as well. Although some people are still focused in on the idea of male supremacy, women are making moves towards gaining gender equality in the religious hierarchy across the world.
