<text>The first of many constitutional amendments in the United States was formally separating the role of religious institutions from the government. Centuries later, religion is still mentioned when watching presidential debates or when talking about "controversial" policies because there is still a strong presence of religious principles in the United States government. This is because the Christian Church - the dominant religion in the United States - in particular has power in the government because of the influence on some of our government officials and average citizens. Consequentially, there are irreligious citizens, or non-Christian Americans that are forced to live by values that they may be indifferent to them.

This a blog that addresses the influence that religion has on the implementation of government policies. The range of Christian influence on American lives has become the norm, for instance the addition of "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance, but the dismissal of other religious deities while on school grounds. The absence of uniform sexual education in school because of beliefs that in order to educate, there would need to be exposure to "obscenities," like the human body. The right to marriage is something that was a privilege given only to heterosexual couples, it's been less than a year since same-sex marriages were forced to be granted and recognized. Women don't always have rights to make decisions about their own body's because of the fact that they have the ability to bear children and there are Christian principles that can object to their ability to prevent conception or to terminate it. These are all topics that are mentioned within this blog, they all point out the role religion plays in politics in America, and therefore the role it plays in all our lives. </text>

<text>This is a blog consisting of five blog entries regarding progressive reforms within different religions. This is a class project for a World Religion class. Each entry touches on a specific movement or event in a certain religion that has already, or has the potential to, change the policies of that religion.

The first entry discusses the transformation of the homosexual community within Judaism and the perspective disparities between different types of Judaism, such as Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox. There have been great leaps in this area of Judaism in modern society.

The second entry discusses the reforms within the Vatican and the leader of Roman Catholicism. Pope Francis has already made great efforts toward evolving the minds and government which dictate strong issues such as child abuse and molestation.

The third entry discusses the role of the woman within Islam. Muslim women have always been subordinate to men; however, this is beginning to change for the better in countries like Morocco. The laws have changed in the last ten years that have brought about more independence and rights for Muslim women in marriage.

The fourth entry discusses the progressivism of polygamy within the state of Utah and the religion of Mormonism. Due to the recent changes in marriage equality for homosexuality in the United States, more support has been given towards the equality for all types of marriages, including multiple marriages.

The fifth and final entry discusses an activist group in Jerusalem known as the Women of the Wall. This group, consisting of men and women, have already seen great successes in bringing equality among gender while at the historic site, the Western Wall. The blog presents a quarrel between the ultra-orthodox men and the activist group after the group attempted to smuggle the Torah into the women's area of the Wall, which is forbidden. </text>

<text>This artifact is a blog post and the theme and title is “College Students and Religion.” Throughout the blog there are several posts that were created over the course of several weeks that relate to this subject. These posts discuss whether or not being involved in a religion as a college students affects their lives and if so to what extent does religion impact today’s young adults. Some of the posts talk about specific religious organizations for example Cru, the Campus Crusade for Christ, which takes place on college campuses around the nation and encourages students on college campuses to practice their faith. Other posts talk about the social aspect of being involved in a religion and how that affects a college student’s life. For example, whether or not moving away from home has affected their religious beliefs and how often they practice their religion. The blog also covers some societal issues of today for example the topic of gay marriage. It researches how a person’s religious views can affect their political and societal views but it focuses on how the younger generation is dealing with these issues. In the blog there are several images, links and videos that viewers can access to further research and look into these topics. Overall, the blog stays true to its theme by relating each topic to today’s younger generation and religion. Whilst doing this it still covers a widespread number of issues from whether or not students practice religion after leaving home to specific organizations students can become involved with on their college campuses. </text>
